Our approach to product feedback

Here at Power Factors, we take product feedback extremely seriously. We believe that listening to our customers, team members, and prospects - by taking their ideas on board - is a sure-fire way to build better products.
We use your feedback to identify the most important features, ideas, pain points, and opportunities so that you can get more value from our products as efficiently as possible.

The benefits of giving us your product feedback

If you take the time to submit your product feedback to us, it means that you have a direct say in how our products develop over time. It means that your ideas are valued and listened to, rather than filed away and ignored.
Ultimately, it allows us to work with you to build the best products we possibly can.

What happens to your product feedback

Our product teams meet regularly with the CSMs, to go through new ideas. Once we have verified that an idea isn’t already available in the system, and seems like a good idea, we change the status to Accepting Votes. Then more people can vote, prioritize, and give us information. This allows us to gauge demand, gather use cases, and establish impact & value.

If we decide to implement an idea, the status will change to Planned or In Development. When it’s done, the status will change to Delivered. Anyone who has submitted or voted on a specific request will be notified when the status of the request is updated. We will always provide an explanation as to the nature of the status update.

Unfortunately, not all requests are in line with our vision and strategy, so sometimes we reject them. When this happens, the status will be changed to Archived and we’ll add a note to let you know that it won’t be delivered.

How we choose what to implement

When we plan a release, we use many factors to help decide which suggestions to implement, including:

  • Customer feedback - there are many ways we listen for your feedback:
formal customer interviews and other research activities
events like conferences and trade shows
comments and votes on issues here in Greenbyte & BluePoint Influence
  • CSM team insights - our CSM team knows which issues are the most challenging and most common for customers.
  • Product analytics - we track how users move through the system, which helps us understand how existing features are being used.
  • Product strategy - our long-term strategic vision for the products.
If you reach out directly to our support or customer success teams, they'll be able to look up the ideas for you, but they won't have any additional information or provide an estimate for when your item will be reviewed.

Custom applications

Sometimes you need functionality that is specific to your needs and not necessarily useful for other customers or in line with Power Factors strategic goals. These special requests are addressed through custom applications, which can be developed by you, using the Greenbyte API, by third-party partners, or by Power Factors for an additional fee. If you are interested in having a custom application built, contact your CSM.

  1. Show availability in MW (total capacity available)

The idea is to be able to visualize Availability in MWs (total capacity available) instead of %. E.g. in a wind farm of 10 x 2MW turbines, if 1 turbine is in Stop during any 10-min timestamp, the site availability will be 18 MW for that timestamp.

Good news! This improvement is included in today’s release. We have added two new Available Capacity for Production Signals:

Available Capacity for Production (Turbine) presents how much power a given turbine is capable of producing at the given time, assuming ideal wind conditions are present. The signal can be used to provide production availability data required by a power off-taker or a production forecasting service, and it differs from the Potential Power turbine signal in that it does not take actual wind conditions into account, but instead assumes ideal wind conditions.

Available Capacity for Production (DC) (Inverter) presents how much power an inverter is capable of producing at a given time, given the time-based system availability and the Solar Capacity DC fixed metadata value. It is often used for energy trading purposes.

  2. Invoiced curtailments

In some markets grid curtailments are remunerated to the generator.
Please include a signal Invoiced Energy = Energy Export + [Lost Production (Grid)]

[or another customizable signal that represents this concept]

In the dashboard is also useful to compare Invoiced Energy against Budget.

    Thanks

This is already available as a signal called Virtual Energy. You need to set the statuses that are invoiced as Compensated in the edit status dialog.

  3. Performance Index to exclude curtailment events

Performance Index is calculated during periods where the System Availability is 100%.
This period of time include curtailment or when Maximum Export Capacity (refereed in Breeze as "Utility set point") is below the total wind farm power output potential.
Therefore, a "Custom Key Performance Index" feature to create a Performance Index to considering these externalizes would solve this oversight.

  4. Tangent phi

We would like the calculation of tangent phi to be able to analyse the evolution of the reactive power. Moreover, we want to plot the tangent phi in data studio.

Good news! This is now available in the Energy Cloud.

  5. If no energy data from the inverters - ability to calculate PR or availability from the power values integrated over time

Calculate energy from the power data (integrate the power over time to have energy in case where the energy values were not transmitted from the scada) - and then use this value for PR calculation and availability calculation.

Both in Solar (inverters, meters) and Wind (turbines) the calculations should use fallback between power and energy depending on which is available.

Some improvements to this fallback for solar will be released next week (2020-02-10). Look out for updates in the “Whats new” section in the docs. The solar update will affect Time-based availability and Lost production to Downtime.

  6. Long term Irradiance

Like LT Wind in Breeze - it'd be useful to have LT monthly irradiance in Bright.

  7. Solar Data resolution

A lot of solar SCADA data resolution is in 15 minute - rather than 10 minute (as per wind) . It would be useful to either have:

A 15 minute data resolution option when exporting data or anaylsing it in the data studio.
Or an option to select the resolution of the source data when exporting or analysing data as you may not always know what the resolution is.

  8. Calculate power curves including air density correction

We would like to see a calculation of power curves including air density correction - based on measured air temperature for example.

  9. Allow negative values for Blade angle (pitch position)

The values of the pitch position measured in degrees starts from -5 to 90. The widget “Blade angle (pitch position)” cannot show the negatives values and instead of them - shows 359 - 358 - 357 - 356 - 355. It would be better to replace them with the negative values -1 - -2 - -3 - -4 - -5.

Great news! This is available in Greenbyte.

Today we give back the exact angle figures we read from the SCADA. If it’s negative values, we show them (previously not). High positive values are shown like before.
